Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen is located in Schuyler County at the southern end of beautiful Seneca Lake in the heart of New York’s amazing Finger Lakes region. The city became internationally known as the host of the first road race after the Second World War.

It is an ideal place to relax, with breathtaking natural beauty, unique and fun festivals and world-class attractions.

Watkins Glen and Schuyler County can be better described as the place where Mother Nature meets the main street. Watkins Glen State Park, Finger Lakes National Forest, Catharine Valley Trail, Sugar Hill State Forest and Finger Lakes Trail are just some of the region’s highlights.

Each of these places is unique in its own way, but all offer plenty of space and memories, including hiking, horseback riding, cycling, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and camping.

Adrenaline Fans….. Start your engines! The streets of Watkins Glen and Schuyler County are the site of American road racing. Be sure to explore this exciting area of the city’s history and culture. Visit the International Motor Racing Research Center, one of the only centers of its kind in the world! Then take part in a race at Watkins Glen International or take the track to drive yourself on the original historic Grand Prix circuit.

Water activities are abundant on the city’s many lakes and rivers, including Seneca Lake, Cayuta Lake, Waneta Lake and Lamoka Lake, where you can sail, canoe, swim, fish, etc. Catharine Creek has one of the best salmon runs in the area each spring. Local guides and outfitters can provide expert advice, equipment and even guided tours!
